Sustainability is a fundamental value and practice woven into every aspect of Concrete Studio. We are a proactive, multidisciplinary team committed to minimising environmental impact in our craft. This commitment starts with materials and production methods: for over a decade we’ve eliminated harmful chemicals like volatile organic compounds from our process and moved toward a zero-waste production model. Wherever possible, we use eco-friendly, locally sourced materials, from aggregates and cements to sealers. This ensures that each piece is not only well designed, but also conscientiously made. Our designed global made local fabrication approach further supports sustainability, as making products closer to where they’ll be used cuts down on shipping-related carbon emissions and supports regional economies.

We also view sustainability through the lens of longevity and timeless design. By engineering pieces that are exceptionally durable and aesthetically timeless, we encourage a move away from the disposable mindset. A Concrete Studio sink or table is built to last decades, both in terms of structural integrity and style, reducing the need for replacements and minimising waste over time. We back this philosophy with real guarantees and customer support, because standing behind our work is part of being a responsible maker. Additionally, our designed global, made local ethos inherently carries social sustainability: it empowers local makers and fosters a culture of knowledge-sharing across our global team.

Our approach to sustainability also extends to how we collaborate. We love to work with architects and designers who share an eco-conscious vision. Early in the design process, we offer our expertise in sustainable material choices and smart design tweaks that can make a project more environmentally friendly without sacrificing design intent. Together with our partners, we aim to create spaces that are not only stunning and functional, but also gentle on the planet.

How We Minimise Impact Through Process & Design

  • Engineered mixes: GFRC (glass-fibre reinforced concrete) allows us to achieve the same strength with far less raw material.
  • Reduced cement content: Our mixes are designed to lower the proportion of cement, the most carbon-intensive part of concrete.
  • Longevity: Our products are built to last for decades, reducing the need for replacements and minimising waste over time.
  • Repairable finishes: Surfaces can be resealed or refinished, extending the life of each piece instead of replacing it.
  • Local production: Our “designed global, made local” approach cuts down on shipping emissions by producing close to where our products are used.
  • Responsible sourcing: Aggregates and materials are locally sourced wherever possible, reducing transport and supporting regional suppliers.
  • Zero waste: Offcuts are reused, and we’ve eliminated harmful chemicals from our process.
  • Non-solvent based sealers: We use water-based, low-VOC sealers that are safer for both people and the environment.
  • Sustainability through design: By creating timeless forms, we discourage disposal due to changing trends, encouraging a more considered, lasting approach to living.

We constantly review and refine our processes to minimise impact: from the way we mix and source materials to how our products are sealed, shipped, and used over their lifetime.
