For Brookfield Multiplex’s head office at Brookfield Place in Perth, Concrete Studio was commissioned to deliver a statement piece that would embody both presence and precision. The centrepiece of the reception is a ten-metre cantilevered concrete desk, conceived as both concierge counter and kitchen area.
Achieving a cantilever of this scale in concrete required meticulous engineering and the use of our high-performance GFRC. The geometry of the piece was carefully modelled so that the visual weight is carried at the projecting end, heightening the sense of impossible imbalance and lightness. Angled planes and tapering lines reinforce this effect, making the desk appear as though it is defying gravity. The challenge was to balance structural strength with refined proportions, creating a piece that appears weightless while remaining robust enough to withstand daily commercial use.
Alongside the reception desk, we produced an eight-metre dining table and a series of desks and worktables, each designed to extend the same architectural language of permanence and quiet strength throughout the office interior.
