In the newly refurbished Tempus Gym in Sydney’s northwest, Concrete Studio worked with innovative designers to execute a bold, multi-health-space fit-out that combines technical refinement with architectural drama. The large-scale reception area is formed by ten interlocking GFRC panels, each joining at distinct angles and levels, resulting in a sculptural entry statement that immediately establishes the dynamic tone of the space.
This visual choreography continues into the gym’s washrooms, where oversized ramp-style sinks, vanity benches, and seating articulate a cohesive material narrative while delivering practical elegance.
Fabricating the reception desk and adjoining partitions from interlocked angled panels presented both compositional and engineering challenge. The geometry was carefully curated to draw the eye along converging planes, lending a sense of movement within the concrete mass. Securely integrating service elements like signage support, coffee counters, and office function, the panels had to be precisely calibrated to align seamlessly: both in form and structure.
Similarly, the ramp sinks and washroom furniture were engineered in GFRC to achieve sleek form, effortless continuity, and durability, essential in a high-use, humid environment.
