For Ernst & Young’s Perth offices, Woods Bagot specified Concrete Studio to deliver a complex feature planter that would transform an overlooked courtyard into an activated social space.
The design called for a series of angled concrete blocks that join together to form a planter large enough for substantial greenery, softening and enlivening the space. Each piece also doubles as integrated bench seating, encouraging workers and visitors to linger rather than simply pass through.
Engineering challenges included strict weight restrictions, craning large GFRC elements above a busy bus depot, and accommodating a recessed lighting strip within the planter structure. Through careful planning and precision fabrication, the result is a robust and sculptural installation that brings new life to the courtyard.
